 It’s too bad that Penny Robinson
doesn’t have a female friend like Stacy Cragmire to play with when she and her family
are stuck on a deserted planet or when they are flying through space. Instead, Penny has a choice of
tagging along with Will and Dr. Smith, playing "dress up" with Debbie,
helping Maureen in the galley, or working
with Judy in the hydroponic garden.
Occasionally, Penny finds male playmates—like the Boy (in the first season episode "The Magic Mirror") or J-5 (in the third season episode "The Haunted Lighthouse"). But a girl like Stacy Cragmire could be a very nice friend for Penny. Unfortunately for Penny, the Robinsons find Stacy on a "hostile planet"—Earth in 1947! In the third season episode "Visit to a Hostile Planet," the townsfolk of Manitou Junction think the Robinsons are "Voltones" with aggressive intentions toward Earthlings. So it’s entirely possible that Penny and Stacy could find themselves in a catfight. But both Penny and Stacy are good-natured, sensible, sweet girls, and they would probably find commonality between themselves, rather than being aggressive toward one another. And, as it turns out, Stacy helps Will foil her father and Dr. Smith’s plan to blow up the Jupiter 2. Hey, if Stacy had been taken aboard and whisked off into space by the Robinsons, Penny and Stacy might have eventually become sisters-in-law! |
